Background

Ratchet Mechanisma Ratchet2
Mechanism Ratchet wrench

Ratchets are commonly incorporated into tools to increase efficiency and ease of use. The mechanism reduces motions by eliminating the need to release the handle and then regrip.  Furthermore, it minimizing the need to hold the tool with the other hand when regripping.

Example

Allan wrench before Allen wrench
Before: After: Ratchet T-handle

The use of rachets widespread and the applications are usually quite similar. Thus, there is little need to show examples. The point is to remember this helpful mechanism when appropriate to improve the use of hand tools.
