In England’s port city of Liverpool, those same electronic games blamed for obesity in young people have been put to work to slim them down.
Reporting the scheme in January, the city’s Daily Post said that the two City Council-run gyms with the system are drawing 15 percent more teens. The plan is to extend the program across the city.
The program designers reason that by fitting television screens and games consoles to the equipment, teens will be able to combine their favorite activity with exercise. The setup is credited with making training sessions more fun, while demonstrating the positive benefits of exercise.
