Looking for a means of managing the cost of benefits, employers are demanding more up-front solutions when it comes to controlling absenteeism, presenteeism and disability. That, said Karen Fitzner, National Director for the Disease Management Association of America, at this week’s National Managed Health Care Congress, puts a new focus on prevention in the workplace and elsewhere.
“That preventive [element] is becoming more important. . . . Employers have been fairly desperate to get a better handle on benefit costs,” said Fitzner.
