Think you’re immune to a workplace injury? A recent survey indicates you’re not alone: over half of all working Americans don’t believe an on-the-job injury could happen to them.
The survey, sponsored by Missouri Employers Mutual Insurance (MEM), showed that over 53 percent of working Americans thought the odds were slim that a work injury would be disabling and over 64 percent didn’t believe they could receive a workplace injury at all. Steve Holmes, Loss Prevention Manager for MEM, however, noted in a press statement regarding the survey that insurance claims differ greatly from the survey’s findings.
Specifically, Holmes noted that 3.9 million people experienced disabling injuries at work in 2001, mostly as a result of overexertion, coming into contact with an object or piece of equipment, or falls.
