A labour leader presented a new definition for workplace stress at a meeting of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) on June 3. The Executive Vice-President of the organization, Marie Clarke-Walker, told GLC representatives that it is about time the mental, emotional and physical damage caused by the common problem is recognized as an injury and not a disease.
She suggested that the redefinition could encourage employers to take workplace stress more seriously.
Ergonomists generally recognize that stress can damage employee health, safety and productivity.
