Annual PSHFES Ergonomics Symposium and Workshop

Once again, the Puget Sound Human Factors and Ergonomics Society has put together a great line-up of speakers for this year’s programs, to be held September 14th and 15th at the Museum of Flight Seattle, WA.

The keynote speaker for the Symposium on the 14th is Dr. David Rempel Dr. Rempel is a Professor of Bioengineering at UC  Berkeley, Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at UC San Francisco and Director of the Ergonomics Graduate Training  Program at UC Berkeley. Dr. Rempel has been part of a multi-site study looking at upper extremity injuries and risks for various jobs.  His presentation will be of interest to anyone working with employees who have upper extremity injuries.

In addition to Dr. Rempel, there will be presentations on several other topics on the 14th including:
·      The Aging Workforce
·      Implementing Participatory Ergonomics in the Grocery Industry
·      Ergonomics Program at Genie Industries
·      Defining What Makes a Product “Ergonomic”
·      Ergonomics Program and the Use of Immersive Technology at Ford Motor Company
·      Nicaraguan Coffee Bag Research Project

The Workshop on the 15th is  entitled "Integrating Lean With Ergonomics" and will be presented by Jeff Smagacz, CPE. Jeff  is an  Industrial Engineer and  a  Lean Practitioner.  The first part of the workshop will be a "primer" on Lean Manufacturing Principles and then we will go on to explain how ergonomics and "lean" principles fit together to reduce injury risk factors in the workplace.  Part of this workshop is a practical case study that will be worked on in small groups, to give the participants actual experience in combining "lean" principles with ergonomic knowledge and will  include case studies  from varying companies applying Lean principles.

Another advantage to the PSHFES Symposium and Workshop is the reasonable pricing:  $85 for the Symposium [before Labor Day; after is $100] and $185 for the Workshop [$200 after Labor Day]  This pricing includes a great lunch and coffee/break food.
