Bellingham, WA -- May 1, 2014 -- the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE®) is pleased to announce the recent certification of Gene Kay. Gene was granted the distinguished Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE®) credential. This credential is awarded to the ergonomics professional who has at least a bachelor's degree and academic coursework covering the BCPE core competencies; at least three (3) years of full-time professional practice in ergonomics; and passed a written exam. About Gene Kay In the late 1980's Gene earned a Master's Degree in Exercise Science and put his skills to work in the areas of human performance and work physiology. Early in his professional career he worked as a clinical exercise specialist and developed an interest in ergonomics. He enrolled in continuing education and short-courses in ergonomics through classes offered at various universities. After several years of practice he had the experience and academic qualifications necessary to sit for the CEA (Certified Ergonomics Associate) exam aimed at allied health professionals. Continuing on his professional ergonomics path, Gene recently passed the BCPE's new electronic format exam, allowing him to transition to the CPE designation. Over the past 15 years he has been a regular contributor to the field of ergonomics through his speaking and publishing activities, and has worked in a variety of leadership positions in ergonomics including: Past President, Upper Midwest Human Factors & Ergonomics Society, American Express Global Ergonomics Manager, Lead Developer and President of ErgoAdvocate LLC, a joint venture with Ergoweb, Inc.
